exothermic and endothermic processes
So basically this summer we totally revamped our initial ideas. We keep the basics of students developing a procedure, carrying out their experiment, and a follow up discussion. However, we really fleshed out the details. This involved adding objectives, prelab activities, lots of scaffolding and questions to specifically ask students during the process. We also developed our assessment. Neither of us had our own classrooms but Katie had at least finished her student teaching at this point.
We were exhausted but we felt like we had accomplished a lot. We had very high hopes for this being a very successful lesson. However, one of the things we really failed to realize at this point was how much work needed to be done with students to prepare them for an open ended, lab based, activity. Basically at this meeting we lesson planned. We tried to take all our ideas about inquiry and develop a minute by minute plan for implementing it. Needless to say, we had a lot to learn.
