"PHYSICS WITH PURPOSE" SEMINAR
I attended a seminar at the
2004 AAPT summer meeting entitled Teaching
Physics with Purpose:
Considering the Social Consequences of Teaching.
A large portion of the seminar was spent reflecting on our own role and the
impact we have as teachers in creating social environments. We considered
how the environment we created influenced student behavior, student learning,
as well as how it fit within the larger social contexts of the institution
of school and the community. I came away from the seminar with a greater appreciation
for the impact I could have on my students on both a personal as well as a
societal level. A description of the seminar is attached below.
